The Second Amendment provides a multitude of opportunities for students at all levels of education to learn more about public policy issues and the U.S. Constitution. Part of the mission of the Second Amendment Research Center is to encourage informed understanding of this important part of the Bill of Rights and the complex factors that affect public policy solutions to complex social issues like gun violence.

Right now we have one lesson prepared that shows how to use the internet to get accurate research for highly contentious issues like the Second Amendment. In the months to come, we plan to present additional sample lesson plans that will show how to use the materials on this website to:

  • discuss the historical sources and current meaning of the Second Amendment

  • participate in a debate on gun policy options

  • balance the issues of gun ownership with the problems of gun violence in the U.S.

  • use the Second Amendment as a teaching tool for approaching the Bill of Rights and constitutional law
